11 L.A.S. "Mohandas Gandhi", "Bapu" or "Mohandas", including 10 on postcards, 1926-1937, to his friend Behram Navroji KHAMBATTA; 10 pages in-8 or in-12, most with address, ink stamps (from 6582 to 7543); in Gujarati (English translation attached). Beautiful set of letters addressed to his close friend Khambatta. They are written from the Ashram of Sabarmati, Wardha, Segan, Ranikhet and Yeravada prison. Gandhi advises his friend to take care of his health as much as possible and to consult a doctor who will be able to give him a real treatment to follow. There is nothing wrong with taking care of one's health, but Gandhi considers abandoning religion for physical reasons to be a serious sin. That he considers the body as an instrument to relieve the soul, and that he only tries remedies without side effects (May 23, 1926) . That he consults Ganri Shankar only if he is convinced that his medicine is ineffective. It is our duty to eliminate diseases from our bodies. Pain comes only to test us. Knowing this, we should try to endure it willingly (February 12, 1937)... He received the book that his friend sent him while he was travelling. Unfortunately he doesn't understand it because the book is written in Italian. How to let him know his opinion? (January 22, 1929)... He also talks about financial transactions, appointments, his physical condition...
