Children of Parisian banker Jules Rheims and his wife Marguerite Getting, Fanny (1900-1987) and Jean-Jules Rheims (1902-1983) are (lot 11) about 6 and 4 years old. In 1922, Fanny married Jean-Paul Pfeiffer, from a Parisian business family; Jean-Jules married Line Louis-Dreyfus in 1930, daughter of Louis, a prominent figure in the politics and grain trade of the first half of the 20th century. Jean-Jules, active in business (banking and plantations) was, in the 1930s, bobsleigh champion in a team with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. His marriage to Line Louis-Dreyfus gave birth to the auctioneer Philippe Rheims, who was associated with his parent Maurice Rheims for a time. A few years after her marriage, Fanny Rheims (Mrs. Pfeiffer) in turn asked Lévy-Dhurmer to portrait here (lot 12) her young son Claude, at the end of the 1920s.
