Walzenkrug ''Christening of Christ'' South German or Switzerland, middle 18th century, grey body, white glazed, the wall in blue decorated with flowers and twigs, frontal cartouche with John the forerunner giving baptism to Jesus, above both of them the dove as symbol of the Holy Spirit, standing ring of tin as well as with stepped tin lid, in the middle relief medallion with depiction of the so-called ''Rütlischwurs'' of three men in renaissance dress, surrounded by legend ''THE FIRST PVNDT WARD OF GOD WORLDED BY GOD DO MAN 1308 TENT'', with spherical pusher, h: 25 cm. Signs of age, chipped glaze. The Rütli oath as founding legend of the Old Confederation has been the national myth of Switzerland since the 19th century.
