Leaf from a Book of Hours (Office of the Dead) Job on his dung heap, mocked by his sons France, Paris or Rouen (?), c. 1500-1510 Ink, tempera and liquid gold on parchment Dimensions: 147 x 225 mm This leaf comes from a Book of Hours with an original liquid gold frame, with very characteristic twin columns. On the border, scenes of bestiary or funny scenes with monkeys and other beasts brighten up the margins. On the reverse of the extracts also from the Office of the Dead. The rubric indicates that these are the prayers for the first night. The outer margin has an illuminated border with a gold background and a reserved background with a grotesque hybrid creature. The lower border continues the monkey cycle, this time with monkeys cutting wood and gathering bundles of wood.
