Meidner, Ludwig Portrait of a lady. 1930. Chest piece, three-quarters profile, turned to the right. Oil on cardboard. 64 x 49 cm. Monogrammed and dated. At the back side formerly with another portrait, this one painted over in black. At the back side at the upper frame bar with transport label for the exhibition of the Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt. - Framed. Expressionism Here the painterly seems to have completely displaced the linearity of many of Meidner's early works. The emphatically expressionist representation with the frequently used stylistic device of conscious deformation has given way to a more naturalistic view. - The portrait was shown on the occasion of the exhibition "Ludwig Meidner - Drawing, Painter, Writer 1884-1966" (15.09.-01.12.1991) in the Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt and is reproduced in the accompanying exhibition catalogue (Verlag Gerd Hatje, Stuttgart 1991, vol.
