Philosophical dictionary, portable. New edition, revised, corrected, and supplemented. Berlin, Guillaume Nusans, 1765.
2 volumes in-12 (165 x 94 mm) of 2 ff.n.ch., 159 pp. for volume I; 2 ff.n.ch., 136, 31 pp.
for volume II; blond calf, triple gilt fillet framing, smooth spine grotesquely decorated, red morocco title and tomaison piece, roulette on the cuts, gilt edges on marbling (contemporary binding).
Edition published one year after the original. Despite the indication on the title, it was probably printed in France.
This famous dictionary caused a scandal when it was published and was condemned to be burnt at the stake first in Geneva, then in Holland, France and Italy. Voltaire deals with various subjects such as government, tolerance, religion, etc.
Slightly rubbed and sunny, if not a nice copy in a decorative binding.
