prestigious provenance
This copy comes from the library of Michael Wodhull (1740-1816), a great bibliophile and the first translator of Euripides' works into English. Most of the works in his library were bound by Roger Payne. The copy bears the inscription "Pyne's sale 24 Feb. 1787" and bibliographical notes on the guard. A first sale with duplicates took place in 1801, the rest of the library was dispersed by his heirs in 1886 in a 10-day sale.
USTC locates only 3 institutional copies in the United States of this edition: New York,
Pierpont-Morgan; Philadelphia University Library; Baltimore, John Work Garrett Library.
