The poet is at the origin of the re-edition of the oriental tale published in French by William Beckford and had the text copied at the National Library with a sparkling preface.

These two copies, unnumbered and reserved for the author, each bear an autograph ex-dono to "Anatole Mallarmé" and "Geneviève Mallarmé" in red ink.
Mallarmé reported four handwritten corrections in Anatole's copy.
Moving copies, reserved by the author for his son Anatole (1871-1879), who died prematurely at the age of 8, and for Geneviève, his beloved daughter, who devoted much of her life to her father's intellectual influence.
