F., Paris Delivery of the lot submitted to obtaining CITES documents This Kachina features Ho'ote, a spirit considered particularly beneficial by the Hopi. Ho'ote brings prosperity to the members of the kiva and to the entire village. This sculpture is the work of Jimmy Koots (full name Jimmy Kootshongsie). He is one of the major artists who revived the Hopi tradition of Kachina sculpture from the mid-20th century. His talent as a sculptor was particularly recognized from the 1960s and 1970s. Although Jimmy Koots' works are never signed, his style and the poetic humor that emanates from his Kachinas make them easily identifiable. A fierce and active defender of the Hopi cause, particularly in the face of industrial societies that coveted the mineral wealth of the land (coal, oil and uranium), Jimmy Koots spent the last part of his life documenting the history, heritage and ancestral rights of the Hopi. His deep knowledge of tradition guided his life and nourished his art.
