Panoply or meeting of everything related to the war from the origin of the French Nation to the present day. Chaalons-Sur- Marne, Pinteville-Bouchard, and in Paris, by Fuchs, 1795, 3rd year of the republican era, 2 vol. in-4, marbled calf, 3 framed fillets on plates, spine ribbed, ornamented, green title coin (bit and us. coif. in vol. 1, spine rest. in vol. 2). The atlas consists of 41 plates, pl. 41 is placed in volume 1 and represents the tournament, which is often missing. Our copy includes an additional plate "the plate of the arsenal of Sedan" and a handwritten note on this subject. The text volume contains many articles relating to the cavalry, its offensive and defensive weapons, the Quintane and Faquin races, the horse's armour and harness, bits, spurs, stirrups. As the title indicates, Carré had composed his work in 1783, but the royal censor responsible for examining it demanded changes that dealt with certain political passages. The author, he said in his preface, had painted a Caste too natural in colour to avoid incurring his resentment and produced, with too much frankness, his reflections on the oppression and degradation of the people. He refused to make the corrections requested and did not publish his work until 1795. Qq. Marginal burns on pp. 33 - 34 and 35. The volume of text is rare, most copies were destroyed, since it was a description of the symbols of the Ancien Régime. Menessier de la Lance, 213.
