A Jain tantric painting of the goddess Durga, Western India, early 19th century, gouache and ink on cloth, the goddess depicted enthroned, with three text panels above and with cosmological numbers and symbols, framed and glazed, painting 48.5 x 46cm., frame 70 x 73cm.
Provenance: Property of the late Victor Aubrey Lownes III (April 17, 1928 – January 11, 2017). Lownes was an executive for HMH Publishing Company Inc., later known as Playboy Enterprises, from 1955 through the early 1980s. See Lot 20 for full note.
