Le Rabelais des Elzevir, well established in a binding lined by Trautz and Bauzonnet. Brunet describes this edition as "very pretty" (IV, 1058-59) in spite of the "printing errors" and indicates that the third book "is not complete". Willems contradicts him indicating that if the third book does indeed have 48 chapters, instead of the 52 of the final edition, he points out that these "four chapters [...] are in their place, without special titles" (Willem, 1316). 2 vol. small in-12 (131 x 71 mm). Titles printed in red and black. Binding signed Trautz-Bauzonnet: red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, spine with ornate ribbing, blue morocco lining, fillets, garlands and inner laces, gilt edges.
