A contemporary bound copy of this famous description of the Scandinavian countries. It is a Latin translation, abbreviated by Cornelius Scribon Grapheus, of the original published in 1555. It is very richly illustrated with woodcuts, notably depicting legendary animals and monsters. It also contains what are believed to be the first representations of skiers ever printed. Sabin, 43833. Binding from the workshop of Jakob Holl (Germany, plate dated 1545 [EBDB r003471]) in cold-stamped sowskin, clasp marks, spine with three ribs, handwritten title in black ink on spine (holes filled, (e.g., renewed endpapers, three scratches on the top cover, a few pitted and scattered stains, restoration on the lower margin of the title page, small lacks in the lower margin of folios K3, Y2 and Y4).
