CASTIGLIONE, Baldassare (1478-1529). The first [quarter] book of the Courtesan of Count Baltazar of Castillon. Reduyct of Ytalicque language in Françoys. S.l.n.d. Lyon: Denis de Harsy, circa 1537]. Rare edition, printed in round letters, of this manual of the ideal courtier. As soon as it was published, the work met with great success and was distributed throughout Europe. This edition is a reprint of its French translation by Jacques Colin. Brunet, I, col. 1630. 4 parts in 1 vol. in-8 (152 x 100 mm). On the 4 title pages, mark of the printer Denis de Harsy representing Daedalus, with his motto "Ne Hault Ne Bas". Binding signed by Trautz-Bauzonnet in hazelnut morocco, smooth spine with cold-stamped romantic decoration, gilt lettering, marbled endpapers, gilt edges on marbling (restored a1-4 leaves, rubbing at the binding).
