COURONNEMENT DE LA VIERGE, miniature on a leaf from a Book of Hours, illuminated manuscript on vellum [Paris, decade 1470]. Pretty miniature illuminated by the workshop of the famous Master François (active circa 1460-80), generally assimilated to François Barbier père, a miniaturist who occupies an essential place in the history of Parisian illumination in the third quarter of the 15th century. 172 x 111 mm. Verso with 16 lines and border, 7 gold initials, the text beginning the Complies of the Hours of the Virgin (slightly trimmed margins). The porcelain complexion of the Virgin and the angels, the swarthy male face of God, the gold hatching strongly evokes the manner of Master François, a Parisian miniaturist known for a two-volume Cité de Dieu by Saint Augustin, translated by Raoul de Presles [Paris, Sainte-Geneviève, 246]. - (USD 818 - USD 1,168) To bid, please see the "Auction Information" section.
