The name pomponne is attributed to the gilded or silver plated metal objects of the 18th century coming from the silversmiths Antoine Joseph Tugot and Jacques Daumy installed in the Hôtel de Pomponne. The latter enjoyed the King's privilege, allowing them to make gold or silver-plated metal objects.
