First edition. Originally from Agen, Count Godefroy d'Estrades (1607-1686), had a brilliant military career, particularly during the Thirty Years War, and diplomatic career: French ambassador to England and then to Holland, he led, with d'Avaux and Croissy, the negotiations that led to the peace of Nijmegen in 1678. He was also appointed perpetual mayor of Bordeaux and viceroy of New France (North America).
