CHALLES (Robert). Diary of a voyage made to the East Indies by a squadron of six ships commanded by Mr. Duquesne from February 24, 1690 to August 20, 1691 by order of the East India Company. The Hague, 1721. 3 volumes in-12, speckled basane, spine with decorated nerves (contemporary binding). Original edition with a copper-engraved folding plate representing a compass rose in volume I. In this diary, he recounts his adventures in the East Indies between 1690 and 1691, and gives a complete description of the living conditions aboard the Ecueil, the King's vessel. He mixes truculent marine anecdotes and ethnological observations at each stopover. Defects in the hinges and blunt corners. Ex libris with Th. Bauffremont-Courtenay's coat of arms, with the motto " Dieu ayde au premier chrestien ".
