FOSSIL SHRIMP
Aeger tipularius
Jurassic Tithonian Stage
Solnhofen Formation, Eichstätt, Germany
The ghostly trace of this long extinct ancestor to today's shrimp is preserved in the fine-grained Solnhofen limestone by a lithographic process. The mass of combed walking legs and swimmerets shows excellent definition and the body and tail shell exhibit good three-dimensionality. The fossil itself measures 6 ½ inches (16 cm) around the curve displaying a lovely brown color against the soft pale cream of the irregularly shaped matrix measuring approximately 16 x 11 ½ inches (41 x 29 cm).
