17-England, London and Sheffield: pair of flies and a tomb. The fly decorated with a rich plant decoration in relief including a Tudor rose. The tomb (=display) decorated with an engraved rocaille decoration. On both pieces: coat of arms showing, on a cannon, a stork with its paw raised on a fleur-de-lys.
Punches on the flies: passing lion and punch of the London master goldsmiths Rebecca Emes and Edouard Barnard (RE EB in a quatrefoil). (See Jackson's Silver...", page 231). First known mention of these goldsmiths in 1808 and the last in 1828 (see "Jackson's Silver...", page 258).
Markings on the tomb: passing lion, Queen Victoria's head in an oval (duty mark), letter date A with a closed crown in a rectangle for Sheffield 1844-1845. Goldsmith's mark T. J. and N. Creswick (TI NC in a square). (See "Jackson's Silver...", pages 431 and 445).
