ram mask Ivory Coast
Wood
Dim : 34 x 46 cm.
This animal mask represents a stylized and realistic ram's head which majestically wears a pair of coiled horns. The head is covered with leather enhanced with red pigments. The mouth is ajar and reveals the tongue.
The ram symbolizes great sexual and reproductive power, but is often also a victim of sacrifice.
Object of non-tribal artistic creation (sculpture expressing itself beyond the classical canons of the socio-cultural group)
