Female caryatid figure presented standing with a pointed carved navel, belly and back decorated with beautiful scarifications in relief. Her headdress is arranged by several mats balanced on the back. These hands in the form of serrated spatulas are symbolically directed towards the sky. Hardwood. Ancient brown and shiny red patina. Louba, Democratic Republic of Congo, late 19th early 20th century. 46.5 x 21.5 cm Provenance: Collected by an English doctor working in Zaire before 1945/47.
