A century before Paris-Plage, the Villette basin in the 19th arrondissement attracted a large audience to watch a match between the best Belgian and French swimmers before they left for the Antwerp Olympic Games. The bridge, at a height of 20 metres, has become the springboard from which Suzanne Wurtz, the two-time French champion in the 100m and 300m freestyle, takes off here.
