Chinese Antiques and Art-Painting, Qing Dynasty early 19th century-Album page framed by light blue silk frame (21 x 37.5 cm), right picture (18.3 x 16.3 cm), left narration (18.3 x 16.3 cm). Extremely fine painting on silk, delicate colour pigments, gold and silver surfaces (including fountain water) and lines (silver embroidered collar of the monk), pasty pigment accents including tree blossoms, fountain stone edge. The way of the Buddhist monk: a monk examines a student who is preparing for the civil service exam. He should wait until the gold in the well, half of which is placed by the student and the other half by the monk, has multiplied by itself through all the springs and rivers. The student does not hear the wise words of the monk and takes a part of the gold prematurely. However, he passes the exam only mediocrely and becomes a mediocre official.
