Kees van Dongen, 1877 Delfshaven - 1968 Monte Carlo FEMME AU BÉRET ET À L'OMBRELLE, 1901 gouache on paper. 35 x 27.5 cm. Signed "van Dongen" at lower right. Behind glass in decorative frame. Enclosed an expertise by Jean-Marie van Dongen dated February 12, 2019, confirming that the gouache is an authentic work of her father, at the request of Monsieur Broc of the University of Marseille. The gouache shows a young woman in a red dress with a red beret on her yellow hair. In front of a blue horizon she holds, with her left hand, an open yellow parasol behind her shoulders. With her blue eyes she looks to the side with concentration and attention. Note: The Dutch-born painter, who was also a member of the Fauves, achieved success in the golden 1920s through commissions for numerous portraits of women and joined the mundane circles that frequented Montparnasse. He became a French citizen in 1929. (1240483) (1) (18) Kees van Dongen, 1877 Delfshaven - 1968 Monte Carlo FEMME AU BÉRET ET À L'OMBRELLE, 1901 Gouache on paper. 35 x 27.5 cm.
