Yvonne Serruys, 1873 Menen, Belgium - 1953 Paris BACK Nude of a Sitting GIRL Oil on canvas Doubled. 80 x 58 cm. Signed "Yvonne Serruys" at lower right. In gilded splendid frame. Work executed entirely in the style of pointilism, showing a young naked girl facing to the right in front of a blue curtain, sitting on a red stool. Fine skilful painting in many freshly differentiated colours. The artist studied painting and drawing under Emile Claus (1849-1924). From 1892 to 1904 she studied in Brussels in the workshop of the painter Georges Lemmen (1865-1916). After a tour through Italy and Greece she exhibited her paintings in the Paris Salon. Afterwards she decided to study sculpture. In 1904 she founded her own workshop in Paris.
