1841 Paris - 1927 Orly
VASE WITH PRESTIGIOUS BUSCH OF FLOWERS, CA. 1900
Oil on canvas.
65,2 x 54 cm.
Signed "Guillaumin" at lower left.
In splendid gilt original frame.
Standing on a brown patterned ground or table top a white painted vase with gold rim, in it the fantastic shining bouquet of flowers with pink coloured cosmetics, between green-yellow shining leaves. In the background a yellowish wall with blue flowers and greenish leaves. Fantastic impressionistic work of the French painter in shimmering vividness and many differentiated colour shades.
The artist attended the Académie Suisse from 1861. There he met Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) and Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), with whom he remained lifelong friends. Among his later friends were also Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and his brother, the art dealer Theo van Gogh (1857-1891), who sold some of his works.
