Georges Lemmen, 1865 Brussels - 1916 ibid. NU AU COUSSIN BLUE, 1907 oil on paper/ cardboard. 54.5 x 68 cm. Monogrammed "AOÛT GL 1907" at upper right. At the back side old sticker by Georges Lemmen, Brussels with title and measurements. In decorative frame. The reclining female nude on a large chaise longue. The young woman with black hair, has her upper part of her body lying on a turquoise, partly red and yellow patterned large pillow. The upholstery of her couch is reproduced in a shimmering variety of red, yellow, gold and white colours, so that it can hardly be distinguished from the back wall in golden-yellow shades. Below the young woman's body the cover is reproduced with large red and white flowers. Painting in impressionistic manner with a quick short brushstroke. The light-coloured incarnate parts of the reclining young woman are particularly finely worked out. Note: The Belgian painter was influenced in the early 1880s by Edgar Degas (1834-1917) and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901). Around 1890 he became a follower of Pointilism, which is also noticeable in the present female nude. (1241358) (18) Georges Lemmen, 1865 Brussels - 1916 ibid.
