[STORY - BRABANT] HARAEUS Franciscus [VERHAER Frans] Annales ducum sev principum Brabantiae Totiusque Belgii. Tomi tres [...] Antverpiae, ex officina plantiniana Apud Balthasarem Moretum and Viduam Ioannis Moreti et Io. Meursium, 1623, 3 volumes in 2 vols. In-folio. Full period fawn calf. Back with 5 nerves. Title in ink on old paper labels (partly disappeared). Embossed plates decorated with a set of cold-stamped fillets and floral interlacing. Split jaws, flat or uneven caps, blunt corners. Solid binding. Fresh inside. Library stamp of Adolphe Mathieu (1804-1876), Belgian writer and curator of the manuscripts of the Royal Library of Belgium. Original edition of this very important work on the history of Brabant, considered at the time as a major work. It is illustrated with 2 title-frontispices engraved by Cornelius Galle and Lucas Vorsterman, after Rubens, and 44 full-length portraits in the text. The beautiful portraits were previously used in Balandus' Ducum Brabantiae Chronicon published in 1600 and in Van Haecht Goidtsenhoven's Chroniicke van de hertoghen van Brabant published in 1606. Franciscus Haraeus (or Frans Verhaer) (1555 ? - 1631) was above all a famous historian and cartographer of the Netherlands. Nice copy!
