Spectacular CARTEL with APOLLON TANK in red tortoiseshell and brass fillets. It is placed on a four brackets wall lamp base with a flared cone with the Sun King?s effigy in the centre. The clock case, curved at the sides, has buttresses ending in windings forming the legs and decorated with bronze terms. The bronze clock face has twelve white enamel cartouches with black numerals. It is surmounted by the chariot of Apollo in bas-relief. At the top is a dome with mantling and rosette motifs on which a renown woman stands. Chiselled and gilded bronze decoration of palmettes, galleries, rosette scrolls, cherub heads, framed with a frame, amatis plaques and a cluster of acanthus leaves, ending with a grenade in the lower part. Old movement from Margotin in Paris (modified) for Pierre Margotin, master watchmaker in Paris between 1681 and 1695. Louis XIV period. Height 140, Width 50, Depth 22 cm. (scale restoration, pendulum not original). Provenance: private collection, Rennes. A Louis XIV cartel with Apollo's chariot in tortoiseshell veneer and rich ornamentation of gilded bronze.
