Nice minaï pitcher with zoomorphic handles.
Siliceous paste with minai decoration on turquoise glaze
Iran, probably Kashan, 13th century
Beautiful example of ceramic with minaï (small fire) decoration in black, white, cobalt and red forming delicate arabesques on a turquoise background. The neck is decorated with a frieze of white stripes on a black background and is connected to the body by two zoomorphic handles and two spouts.
A similarly shaped piece with handles forming felines is kept in the collections of the Louvre Museum, under the inventory number (OA 6172). The Musée des Beaux-arts de Lyon also keeps a ceramic of the same shape with Ladjvardina decoration (E 582).
The British Museum in London keeps a bowl with a similar minaï decoration, called Kashan and dated between 1175 and 1225 (Inv. N°1915,0609.3).
