Four Kalamkar
Painted and printed cotton in polychrome using the kalamkar technique
Iran, circa 1900
One is decorated with an abundance of composite flowers and saz leaves evoking mythical birds, and friezes of boteh motifs.
The second is decorated with palm trees inscribed in alternating white and yellow mandorles, with registers of friezes of composite flowers and boteh.
Another with an attractive polychrome decoration of large composite flowers and birds, probably peacocks, framed by frieze registers with vegetal decoration.
The last with a central polychrome decoration of foliage and large composite flowers, surrounded by a frieze of boteh motifs on a background of stylised palmettes, and thin floral friezes.
