Qadjar portrait in a khatam kari frame
Polychrome pigments and gold on paper, and Khatam kari or marquetry of wood, exotic wood, ivory, stained ivory, bone and brass

Pretty portrait mounted on the album page of a richly adorned Qadjare courtesan, sitting next to a kitten in front of a window opening on a Western-inspired wooded landscape. The many textiles depicted are adorned with as many fine floral motifs, including delicate botehs on the fabric on her shoulders. She is holding a small gauze handkerchief in her hand. The scene is framed with margins decorated with gold composite saz and flowers on a blue background. The frame is in fine marquetry patterned with friezes of radiating stars according to the khatam kari technique.
Slight wetnesses and small lacks in the frame.
