Polychrome pigments under glass in a wooden frame
Iran, 20th century
Ahmad Shah, child king of Iran, the last ruler of his dynasty, was overthrown in 1925 following a coup led by Reza Khan (or Reza Pahlevi). He is depicted here as a child, on his richly decorated throne, on a tree-covered terrace. Above him are floral motifs and foliage scrolls. A cartouche adorning the throne bears an inscription that reads 'Ahmad Shah, Sultan Qajar'. It is signed below this cartouche Ghorban Ali Ghorbani.
