Red chagrin, gilt fillets in the frame and gilt motif in the centre of the covers, smooth spine with gilt motifs, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Superb and famous edition published by Curmer, illustrated with 12 steel engravings out of text by Rigaud, de Champaigne, Decaisne, Meissonier, Murillo, Herrera le vieux and Tony Johannot, each presented in a beautiful engraved frame. It also includes several woodcut vignettes mainly after Meissonier and each page is furthermore decorated with a woodcut frame, different according to the parts.
