A Large Daunian Olla with Flaring Mouth

South Daunian, Subgeometric IIA-B 5th cent. B.C.. Clay. H. 21.5 cm Squat body on flat base, two short handles and animal protomes. Pendant circle segments above concentric circles on interior of mouth. Shoulder and body richly decorated with metopes, horizontal bands and vertical lines of differing colour and width. Rectangle and swastika in the metopes. Pendant hour-glass motifs by the lowest band. Condition: Reassembled, some fragments replaced. Nose of one applique slightly worn. Cream slip, brown, dark grey and red matt glaze. Formerly estate of Hans-Ulrich Rutschmann, Switzerland, ca. 1950's - 1970's. Starting price: 1200 CHF
