The beach of Akashi (Kobe)
Black stone and watercolour on thick paper. Located and dated in French "22 septembre 1943". Signed in lead pencil in the lower left corner. Size : 31x45 cm.
Within the framework of a cultural collaboration between Indochina and Japan, Luong Xuan Nhi - accompanied by the artists Nam Son and Nguyen Van Ty - took part in several exhibitions organized in the Nippon archipelago during 1943.
It is in this context that he painted a large number of portraits and landscapes during his stays in Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka and Kobe. This work, highly emblematic of the artist's Japanese period, was acquired by a former doctor, surgeon and dean of the Hanoi Faculty of Medicine, during the traditional annual exhibition of the Indochina School of Fine Arts in 1944.
