Paul COLIN (1892-1985) - Josephine Baker - Pochoir signed lower right - 32,5 x 26,5 cm - Note : The meeting between the young dancer Josephine Baker and the painter Paul Colin on the set of La Revue Nègre is a happy stroke of fate: It will give birth between them both a love passion - which will later turn into a long and faithful friendship - and a long and fruitful artistic collaboration, of which Josephine will be the muse, and which will inspire to Paul Colin a series of brilliant posters, recognized as masterpieces of graphic art.  The lithographs of Tumulte Noir, a masterpiece of decorative art, were hand-colored using the stencil technique and published in 500 copies. The musicians and dancers of La Revue Nègre and Josephine Baker are represented in a style that combines Art Deco, cubism, calligrams, caricature, and are marked by the influence of the painter Fernand Léger, as well as the artist Miguel Cavarrubias, who composed the sets of La Revue Nègre.
