Goddess Gayatri Lot n° 10

Goddess Gayatri is the feminine form of the ever-so-lively gayatri mantra, having a vedic meter of three padas or lines and eight syllables. She is the consort of Brahma and is associated with the morning sun that forms the divine aureole in the painting. She personifies shakti (strength) and dev (quality) of knowledge, purity and virtue. She is opined to have given the four Vedas to mankind, hence also called Vedmata. _x000D_This large painting depicts goddess Gayatri sitting on a full bloom lotus and has five heads and ten arms, as it occurs in the Devibhagavata. The five faces painted in extreme genuinity and grace portray the colors of mukta (pearl), vidruma (coral), hema (gold), nila (blue) and dhavala (white); the ten eyes look in eight directions plus the earth and sky and the ten arms carry two lotuses, chakra, sankha (conch), kapala (skull cup), ankusa, whip, battle axe, a book of knowledge and a hand pose of Abhaya Mudra assuring protection. _x000D_She is garbed in royal red sari embellished with precious zaried border and bootis, complementing the primely painted kamarband and jewels with a white flower garland. The dusky background and the blowing winds blended with various colors, and the contrasting white swan swimming on the clear waters reflects the color of sky. The astonished stone studded crown has a crescent moon with the gesture of her eyes in an expression of calmness, superiority and that smile of fearlessness.
