Bhadohi, and bits of the surrounding districts, are collectively the rug-making headquarters of India. A city known for its love of traditional, almost devotional style, it is known to churn out the finest of Indian rugs in a multitude of colours and finishes. The one you see on this page a one-of-a-kind number handpicked for its unusual scheme of motifs._x000D_Along the breadth, the embroidery is perfectly symmetrical. The same is best appreciated by zooming in - miniscule flowers with delicate petals quivering under the weight of their own colours. The colour palette ranges from greens and blues to browns and yellows, but the pastels are so densely packed together across the field that the overall tone is one of solemnity._x000D_These knotted flowers are a hand-me-down of the rich Persian rug-making tradition that Mughal artisans borrowed heavily from. They are arranged in quadrilaterals of varying sizes, the central one featuring a stark base colour of white. Hints of white are to be found in the surrounding outer panel of singular, continuous embroidery. Such a rug will add to your space great solemnity and beauty.
