Attributed to Frederico ZUCCARI (Sant'Angelo in Vado, 1539 - Ancona, 1609) Head of Putto Fresco painting on tegula 48 x 38 cm Artists, mainly in Florence, used to paint a fresco directly on tile, either for studies prior to large-format work, or to create a finished work usually framed and not presented as a fragment detached from a wall. Federico Zuccari is an Italian painter and architect considered to be one of the masters of early fifteenth-century Roman Mannerism. A pupil of his brother Taddeo, Federico worked with him at the Carafa Apartment in the Vatican Palace (1556), the Dome of Orvieto (1559), the Orsini Castle in Bracciano and in Caprarola. At his death, he completed several works at Trinità dei Monti, S. Marcello al Corso, Sala Regia and the Farnese Palace in Rome. The putto head shown here is similar to the putti in the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, begun by his brother Taddeo.
