Reid & Sons - listed in B. Loomes 'Watch and Clockmakers of the World Vol 2', as active in Newcastle-on-Tyne between 1827 and 1858.
Dimensions: height – 20,3 cm, width – 21,2 cm, depth – 12,3 cm.
Gilt bronze drum case engraved with scrolling acanthus leaves and raised on volute scrolls over a rectangular plinth base and four bun feet.
White enamelled dial with black Roman numerals, signed 'REID & SONS, NEWCASTLE ON TYNE',
Good technical quality French movement stamped 'MEDAILLES D’OR / JAPY FRERES / ANNEES / 18.25.27.34.39.44.49, (gold medals obtained by Japy Freres on exhibitions in years: 1818, 1825,…1849). As watchmaker was active till 1858, clock was made between 1849 and 1858. Engraved signature: ‘Reid & sons / Newcastle on Tyne’ on the back plate. Eight day power reserve, two train movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell, with original pendulum. Winding key present.
Conditions report: the movement working order, but not fully tested or guaranteed. Wear to the gold layer. Hairline cracks on dial. Case in very good condition for the age, clean.
