In 1637/38, Herp became a master in the St. Luke's Guild in Antwerp. The influence of Peter Paul Rubens and Jakob Jordaens can be seen in his religious pictures, but his style is markedly more classical, with clear, frieze-like compositions.
The subject of the picture is the transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor (Matthew 17: 1-13; Mark 9: 2-13; Luke 9: 28-36) before the apostles Peter, James and John. Jesus is poured over by divine light, Moses and Elias appear next to him and a voice from heaven proclaims, "This is my beloved son". Herp painted the scenes with strong colors in the robes of the apostles and Old Testament figures against a dark cloud background that breaks up to the golden light of the sky. The figure of Christ is dressed in bright colors. James kneels on the left, Peter on the right, with St. Scripture in front of and behind him is Johannes.
