Francesco Bassano, Jacopo Bassano's son, first worked in his father's workshop. He had been working in Venice since 1580.
The topic of the representation has not yet been interpreted. A priest baptizes a young, richly dressed woman against the backdrop of a city. The bearded, older man next to her could be her father. In heaven two putti hold a branch of palm, which is commonly a sign of victory for martyrs who won eternal life with their death for faith. Here, however, it can perhaps only be an indication that baptism promises eternal life to the woman.
