JOSEPHINE (Marie-Josèphe Rose Tascher de La Pagerie, future empress). Autograph letter signed "Lapagerie Bonaparte", addressed to François-Marie Botot. Around 1797-1799]. 1 p. in-12, remnant of red wax seal, small marginal tear on the address sheet. "I beg you, my dear Botot, to ask Barras to take an interest in the c[itoy] in Augé-Chatillon who wishes to be appointed commissioner of the Directoire in the department of Loir-et-Cher, he is an honest man and a good patriot. You will please me, if you can contribute to help this good man. Receive, my dear Botot, the assurances of my friendship... "INFLUENT SECRETARY OF PAUL DE BARRAS, FRANÇOIS-MARIE BOTOTOT had been before the Revolution secretary to the Countess d'Artois. He then practiced the professions of lawyer and magistrate, while entering the service of Paul de Barras in 1793 and also carrying out missions for Bonaparte. He was arrested after the attack on the rue Saint-Nicaise (1800) and was released, but went into exile and never returned to France.
