A William III Britannia silver trefid spoon, the oval bowl with beaded rat-tail to heel, and with scratch initials 'S' over 'I G' to the reverse of the terminal. Hallmarked London 1697 and tentatively attributed to James Pearce. Length 8 (20cm), weight 2.02 ozt (63 grams). Very similar maker's mark found in Grimwade, page 158. Displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing but appears in fairly good overall condition given the age.The rounded tip of the bowl appears a little ground down and thinner on one side. Some heavier surface nicks and pitting marks to both inner and outer bowl. The rat-tail appears a little flattened, in particular the beading which has significant loss of detail and definition. Hallmarks are bottom struck to reverse of stem. Some rubbing but otherwise in good order. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
