A George II silver sauce boat, the plain bellied form with leaf capped flying scroll handle and raised on three lion mask and paw feet with bun shape supports, scratch initialled underneath, H over T*A and further initials T S to base of handle. Hallmarked Joseph Sanders, London 1738. Overall length 6.75 (17cm) and height 4.5 (11.5cm), weight 10.85 ozt (337.4 grams). Of heavy gauge and appears in good overall condition. Displaying general tarnishing and some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and nicks in keeping with the age and use.Some heavier nicks and pitting marks visible to the interior of the base. Evidence of likely repairs around the join of the handle to rim, surface uneven and a little lumpy. Possibly not the original handle Flying scroll design slightly later date Some surface rubbing causing flattening and loss of detail to areas of the lion mask and paw feet. Hallmarks located underneath, partly rubbed and worn but still legible. Maker's mark seen in Jackson p.189 for the date 1737-8.Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
