A pair of George III Irish silver mounted wine coasters, each of circular form with wavy rim and applied reed border with a conforming wavy band of simple pierced pales below, engraved to one side with a unicorn crest above two further pierced borders of foliate and circular motifs, with turned wood base. Hallmarks worn, possibly Dublin 1788, maker's mark partly visible and attributed to Christopher Haines. Rim diameter 5 (12.7cm). Both displaying some expected surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with the age and use. Also some general tarnishing to metal. Many small surface dints and bruises, particularly visible around the edges of each base. The vertical seam line is visible to both with some possible small repairs along them. Rubbing and surface wear to areas of decoration with some loss of detail or definition.Hallmarks located below the pierced band, these are very worn and partly obscured and one example appears without a maker's mark. Wooden bases are stained and faded. They are also loose in the mounts, causing some movement. One example with underside partly covered in baize but very worn and faded.
