A FRENCH CONSTITUTION, PRESENTED TO THE KING ON SEPTEMBER 3, 1791, AND ACCEPTED BY HIS MAJESTY ON THE 14TH OF THE SAME MONTH. A PARIS, DE L'IMPRIMERIE NATIONALE, 1791. A volume, in-18, of 179 pp., full contemporary red morocco binding. Smooth spine decorated with fillets, fleur-de-lys, double gilt fillet and roulette decoration on the covers, gilt edges. (small wear of the morocco, light stitching inside). This text, promulgated two years after the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the articles of the Constitution of 1789, is the first written constitution transferring sovereignty from the King to the Nation. It established a constitutional monarchy in France. Rare original edition in a contemporary binding.
