"A Presidential gift"
One finds mention as early as Napoleon III of Sèvres vases offered in the name of the Nation. These rewards awarded to charitable societies, agricultural comices, sports competitions bring Sèvres into the countryside and more popular circles. The Sèvres vase became the highest prize symbolizing by its intrinsic excellence the talents and qualities of the winner. Each year the Presidential Gift Service of the Elysée Palace receives Sèvres vases for these purposes (as does the protocol service for diplomatic gifts and gifts hand-delivered by the president). These trophies include the vase of Angers (a form created in 1897), Blois (1901), Clermont (1903), the Cups of Rivoli (1852) or Urbino (185 1), with a blue background of Sèvres or cloudy blue, decorated with flower seedlings and gold nets, and since 1973, the Omnisport Cup.
